My first reluctant blog

They say if you want to be a writer, you need to have a blog. Unless you are famous, that is. (If you’re famous, you don’t have to do anything; you have it made.)

The blog, they say, is only a tool. A place to organize yourself and make friends. A place to discuss ideas related to your craft. A place that allows you to re-create yourself.

Therefore, if you want to be a novelist, your blog should speak about writing novels, and address important matters, like plot, characters, language, or point of view. Express opinions about other writers and books that you read. Post reviews. Promote your own writing and provide relevant excerpts from ongoing work.

But you have to be short, they tell you. Unambiguous. Original. Intelligent. Try to be very intelligent, they say. Oh, and don’t forget funny, too. Funny, even if it doesn’t come easy, especially when you try.

So as far as I am concerned, this is my first time — I have no clue what to do. Maybe what I want most of all, is for somebody to answer me. Challenge me, and start a dialogue with me. A nice, professional dialogue. Intelligent, you see.

And maybe, even more than that, I just want to be me…
